American Vision

One particular historic horse that Carrie has highlighted is Secretariat, in her painting of “American Vision”. This idea of connection and timelessness is best depicted in Carrie’s signature college style, where she wants the viewer to feel the era around the horse as much as the animal itself. The painting’s background blends unmistakable American figures, such as Jackie Kennedy as a child, Elizabeth Taylor on horseback, alongside nods to fashion, the mustang automobile, and the cowboy. “It’s a melting pot of Americana, and everywhere you can see the equine influence,” she explains. She also wanted her painting to point to the resilience and creativity required of horse people, embedded in the texture surrounding the animal.
