Finding Balance

That natural instinct toward slowing down and noticing your environment helped to shape how Carrie lives outside the studio. This focus on time and lifestyle helped to inspire another piece, her butterfly college titled “Finding Balance”. Carries sees a strong symbolic story in the recurring butterfly imagery throughout her work. In her life, these beautiful creatures represent rebirth, the passage from childhood into adulthood, and the simple fact that time keeps moving whether or not we’re paying attention or not. Simply stating, “Time goes on. We cannot control time and yet it continues to move. I want this piece to be a reminder to find the balance in whatever time we have.” For Carrie, that balance includes turning the phone off, riding a horse, spending time with her kids, or simply going outside and reconnecting with the natural world her paintings keep returning to.
