Horse Head

“In the horse head, I chose to focus exclusively on the head because it is the seat of the horse’s sensitivity and soul. By narrowing the frame, I have stripped away the physical weight of the body to highlight the animal’s inner spirit. This portrait is intended to be a personal encounter with the horse’s temperament rather than a study of its physical utility. I used a fluid, layered oil technique to represent the horse as something emerging from a dream or a memory. The vibrant blues and warm ochres are applied with a lightness that suggests an energy that is weightless and atmospheric. I intentionally kept the brushwork open and the edges soft to show how the animal’s grace seems to dissolve into the light around it, moving beyond the traditional boundaries of the form.
