Artist Bio:

Jeff Ripple is a self-trained landscape painter working primarily in oils. He is dedicated to a poetic realism in landscape painting inspired by intriguing compositions and fleeting moments of emotive light in nature. His style involves carefully planned drawings, a reliance on sketches and studies painted in nature to inspire studio work, and a focus on luminous atmosphere.

Evidence of a human presence is often absent or subordinated in his landscapes. Jeff’s work in the studio evolves from graphite composition sketches, field studies (paintings and drawings), photographs and video shot on location. Studio paintings are generally contemplative with carefully rendered underpaintings (often tonal) and layers of glazing to achieve the luminous atmosphere he seeks. Many studio paintings are from imagination, drawing from his experiences, contemplation and a sense of wonder in the landscape.

Prior to turning to landscape painting full-time, Jeff has worked as a kayak and swamp guide in the Big Cypress and Ten Thousand Island (western Everglades), a natural history author (10 books), and a large format landscape photographer. Many ideas for his paintings come from his experiences in those former roles.
