Registration Papers

Some of Cherie’s most meaningful work doesn’t start with a horse at all. It starts with a piece of paper. In addition to horsehair, for specific pieces, clients can send Cherie photographs, registration papers, handwritten poems, or official documents tied to a horse they’ve loved. In her vessel titled “Registration Papers”, Cherie burned the paper and ink directly into the pottery, permanently fusing the memory into the piece. Because the image is fired into the clay rather than printed or painted on, it’s remarkably durable. A vessel can sit in direct sunlight indefinitely with no fear of fading or damage. Wrapped around the neck of this piece is further braided horsehair and turquoise beads, adding another tactile layer to the memorial for her daughter’s barrel racing horse. It’s a piece that captures exactly why this medium resonates so deeply with her clients. It isn’t just decoration; it’s preservation.
